Alcohol Awareness Month
April is Alcohol Awareness Month
Founded and sponsored by NCADD, Alcohol Awareness Month was established in 1987 to help reduce the stigma so often associated with alcoholism by encouraging communities to reach out with information about alcohol, alcoholism, and recovery.
Alcoholism, also known as alcohol use disorder (AUD), is a broad term for any drinking of alcohol that results in mental or physical health problems.
The disorder is a chronic, progressive disease, genetically predisposed and fatal if untreated.
This is vital to know that Alcoholism can be treated and people can recover. There are many Alcohol Rehab Centers and Meridian Treatment Solutions is a Top-Rated Accredited Alcohol Rehab Center. Learn more about our unique program.
Why is Alcohol Awareness Month so important?
Many people struggling with Alcoholism need to get treatment, but it must begin with education and understanding of the subject.
Alcohol Awareness Month provides an opportunity to increase awareness and understanding of alcoholism, its causes, effective treatment, and recovery.
As NCADD website quotes: "Each April, NCADD’s National Network of Affiliates and other supporting organizations across the country will use this opportunity to address the Nation’s #1 public health problem through a broad range of media strategies, awareness campaigns, programs and events in their local communities.
With this year’s theme -- “Changing Attitudes: It’s not a ‘rite of passage.’ ” -- the month of April will be filled with local, state, and national events aimed at educating people about the treatment and prevention of alcoholism, particularly among our youth, and the important role that parents can play in giving kids a better understanding of the impact that alcohol can have on their lives".
By joining forces and providing the information, tools, and support, we are full of hopes that any individuals will take the step and seek help.
Alcohol Rehab Centers can provide the help and lead the individual to a sober, happier and healthier life.
What can you do if you or your loved one needs help?
There are many resources available to learn more about the condition, how to treat it and where you should go to get the help.
One of the best and most reliable resources is SAMHSA - Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
When choosing an Alcohol Rehab Center it is extremely important to check the accreditations and licensure of the facility, check the website, staff and reviews online.
To live a sober successful life a person needs to not only overcome the physical aspects of the Substance Use Disorder, but also the mental aspects while acquiring the coping tools and knowledge to succeed.
