How to avoid those high-risk triggers?
Hungry - Develop a habit of eating on regular hours and always have a healthy snack with you. Fruits, nuts and veggies are great healthy snacks. And stay hydrated!
Angry - Work on your anger management, with a therapist or support group. If you know your anger triggers, it will be easier to avoid the situation for the first place. One-on-One therapy is a great way to learn how to avoid and cope with this high-risk trigger.
Lonely - One of the truly amazing thing in the recovery world, is being part of a group. There are many individuals just like you or your loved one, whom seeks support, friendship and new experiences. There are numerous support groups, Facebook groups and of course Treatment center's Alumni programs. Every week there are numerous networking and social events, not just for recovering addicts...for everyone. They are easy to find on Facebook or websites like MeetUp. You can easily find new friends and amazing experiences. They are a click of a button or a call away!
Tired - Lack of sleep, stress, poor diet and other lifestyle factors are among some of the reasons for fatigue. So...
- Try to sleep at least 6-8 hours a day
- Eat healthy and regularly
- Lose weight if necessary
- Reduce stress
- One-on-one therapy may help! There is evidence that CBT therapy or counselling may lower the fatigue

2. Learn to RELAX
In most case people use drugs and alcohol to escape, relax, and reward themselves. In other words, people use drugs and alcohol to relieve tension.
There are so many great and enjoyable ways to relax.
Meditation, Yoga, Tai-Chi, Developing a hobby, Sport and recreation, Reading a book, Meeting friends (supportive for the recovery process) - those are just some of the fun and relaxing to do on a daily basis.
Develop a routine and plan ahead weekly. Relaxation has to be a part of day to day life.
3. Be Honest
An addiction requires lying.
Lying about getting the drug, using it and hiding its consequences. An addiction is full of lies. By the time the addiction had developed, lying comes easy.
